Now that almost everybody in the entire planet has access to the internet, you, whether a curious individual or a struggling web designer, are pretty lucky to have these premium and most often “free courses” to learn the very basic language of the web.

I know that learning these things could be a bit difficult if you are not familiar with HTML, but I assure you that taking that big step to get to know the language that powers every page there is in the world wide web, you will be able to appreciate the lessons that you will learn in the process.

Overview

HTML is known as HyperText Markup Language. It is the language that is used to create web pages. These are files that hold the content and the necessary HTML tags to produce a page.

HTML tags, on the other hand, are like instructions to enable a software to interpret it as an HTML. Tags are composed of special characters which is often called “brackets” or angle brackets. It starts with < and ends with >. The very basic tag that you will use is the <html> tag. This begins every HTML document and in order to end it, we use </html>. Notice the /.

Remember that these HTML tags often come in pairs – that’s why we call them “tag pairs.” If you start a tag with <body> you will end it with </body>. Simple? That’s how HTML works. You place your content inside the tags or in this case, between <body>content here</body>.

The very basic HTML document you could ever make is this:
<!doctype html>
<html lang="en">

<head>
<title>Page Title Goes Here</title>
</head>

<body>
<h1>The Largest Heading</h1>
<p>Document contents in a form of a paragraph.</p>
</body>

</html>
